Do you know about Floria’s Meadow? Oh I suppose not. It’s all grown over now, but you may be able to find its remains if you wander off McMurray Road on your way to Browns Point.

But you really should know, because to understand Tacoma it would behoove you to know about the meadow. And to understand the meaning of the meadow, I have to tell you about one of our old districts named Booster Bend; in which there ran a street named Knuckleback Row; on which there was…a factory.

This factory was an imposing building to say the least. It seemed to swallow the sky. Mothers would discourage their children from trying to look up at it, because if they did just one too many times, they said that their shoulders would get stuck to their heels. And the problem with that, is that when your shoulders become stuck to your heels, you become convinced that walking on your hands is by all means normal.
