The Amocats

We all know of the illustrious chapters in the annals of our city’s politics: the feats, the defeats, the brawls, the ballyhoos, the glories and the gloom.

And much to everyone’s belief, it appears that the wisdom to guide us through it solely emanates from the confines of the chambers at 747 Market when the clock strikes Tuesday at 5 pm.

But don’t be so easily misled. I’m here to tell you there’s a finer magic at work behind the scenes; a secret so well-kept that even to this day very few have witnessed it, or bothered to report of it for fear of disbelieving friends. But seen it they did, perhaps when the morning still slumbered.

Haven’t you ever wondered why all is quiet from A St. to Broadway when the night falls and our pubs and bistros should be spilling over into the street? Have you paused long enough to peer into the cracks in the corners of the Municipal Hall, and listened to whispers trickling out of the vents in the elevator shaft as it scales from floor to floor?

If not, then allow me the pleasure of giving you first notice – or warning – of the Amocats of Tacoma that govern Theater Square.
